NANASP's mission is to strengthen through advocacy and education NANASP’s vision is to reshape the future of nutrition | Protecting Older Adults: The Impact of Chronic Funding Shortfalls, Cuts and Policy Changes on Nutrition and Wellbeing The chronic underfunding of the Older Americans Act Nutrition Program and the administration’s proposed elimination or defunding of critical programs — such as federal block grant programs that provide additional support to Meals on Wheels and older adult congregate meal programs, the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), and Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) — combined with historic cuts to SNAP and Medicaid under H.R. 1 and lasting impacts from the government shutdown, put millions of older adults at more acute risk of hunger and hardship. NANASP has co-led successful advocacy efforts to gain more funding for important aging programs, including: In the past year, NANASP has also led a successful advocacy campaign to make the RSV vaccine available to older adults without the need to discuss it with their doctor, hosted a malnutrition learning collaborative for AAAs, participated in ACL's strategic framework for a National Plan on Aging, and given grant funding to our members for waitlists, medically tailored meals, and technology to connect with older adults. |
