Robert (Bob) Blancato, NANASP Executive Director
Since 1996, Bob has served as President of Matz, Blancato & Associates, a firm specializing in government affairs, association and coalition management, and advocacy services to provide staffing to our organization.
Blancato’s career in aging for more than 30 years in public service in both the Congress and the Executive Branch includes serving as Staff Director of the House Select Committee on Aging’s Subcommittee on Human Services from 1977 through 1988 and as Senior Advisor until 1993.
Bob currently serves on the Executive Committee, as the Immediate Past President of the National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse, President of Americans for Long-Term Care Security, Chairman of the National Silver Haired Congress Advisory Council, Special Advisor to the Board of Generations United and is on the Board of Directors for the American Society on Aging, the Greater Washington Urban League and Senior Navigator. Previously, Blancato was an original member of the Board of Directors of Citymeals-on-Wheels USA and served as President of the National Meals-on-Wheels Foundation.
In addition, Blancato serves as National Coordinator for the Elder Justice Coalition, a national advocacy voice supporting elder justice in America. In 1999, The American Society on Aging (ASA) recognized his outstanding contributions to the field of aging awarded him the ASA Award. He has been honored to receive many awards from national, state and local aging network organizations.
He served on the Policy Committee and Executive Committee of the 2005 White House Conference on aging, appointed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. In 1995 Bob was appointed by President Clinton as the Executive Director of the 1995 White House Conference on Aging.
Bob was a member of the United States delegation to the United Nations World Assembly on Aging in 1982 in Vienna and was selected as a delegate to the 1998 White House Conference on Social Security.
He received his bachelor of arts degree from Georgetown University and a Master of Public Administration from American University.
Meredith Ponder Whitmire, Federal Policy & Advocay Manager
Meredith serves as the Senior Representative for Federal Policy and Advocacy for NANASP. She holds a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center and a Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University.
Pam Carlson, Directors of Programs & Education
Pam has over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry – which includes almost 10 years of proficient meeting planning experience for over 30 national non-profit educational conferences and meetings. Prior to working with NANASP, Pam planned conferences for the U.S. Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution/Morris K Udall Foundation in addition to the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and a variety of other national non-profit professional associations. She received her bachelor’s degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management from Northern Arizona University and is currently studying to become certified as a meeting professional by the Convention Industry Council.
In addition to the annual conference and ongoing educational initiatives, Pam provides support to the NANASP Board of Directors and working committees.
Scott Carlson, Director of Finance & Operations
Scott Carlson worked for 15 years in the hospitality industry prior to working with NANASP. His hospitality career included positions of General Manager & Director of Sales & Marketing. Scott’s work within NANASP includes Membership management, Accounts Receivable and Payable duties, Vendor marketing and support, as well as email marketing. He received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Northern Arizona University.
